World Usability Day
was started in November, 2005, so that we could change the world. Each of us can make a
difference, whether we are developers or consumers, our action shape our world.
A humanistic approach to technology development can help to steer us in a
positive direction. User centered design and development puts people
first. When products and services are developed to enhance our
lives, help us do our work more efficiently, and add enjoyment, everyone can
benefit.
World Usability Day
began as a conversation in a restaurant in the Boston area, on the eve of a
great historic moment in baseball. The Boston Red Sox finally won a playoff
series against their long time rival, the New York Yankees. After 86 long
years, the curse of the Bambino was over. A somewhat motley team of players
worked together to sweep the World Series and become the 2004 Major League
Baseball Champions.
As a long time Red Sox fan, I saw the power of a team of people working
together to create a change. The model of people working together for a greater
good is inspiring when you see each individual pushing themselves, to go
further then they ever had before. The whole is greater then the sum of its
parts.
